A Functional Assessment, also known as a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a physical assessment that is used to determine a worker’s physical abilities and limitations. Tests include fitness, postural tolerance, manual handling, grip strength, endurance, repetitive movements and specific simulated work tasks.
AIP conducts standardised Functional Assessments such as Workhab as well as non-standardised.
A Functional Assessment can either be undertaken in an AIP room specifically set-up with the required equipment or at the worksite. The assessment usually takes up to 2.5 hours.
A Functional Assessment can be used to determine the fitness of a person with disability, injury or illness to perform specific work tasks and to determine the need for adapted equipment or a graded return to work plan.
A Functional Assessment is also a useful tool to ensure a worker’s fitness to perform their role when returning to work after extended sick leave.
